And if you can’t qualify for the Centurion Card (or just can’t stomach the sky-high fees), that top-tier Amex product’s more mainstream counterpart, The Platinum Card® from American Express, is a worthy runner-up.For some, the card’s familiar platinum color is part of the appeal, but for a limited time, Amex is offering a special yellow version, too, apparently “designed” by Pharrell Williams. You’ll need to purchase a ticket to a special black-tie charity event called The Yellow Ball in order to request a yellow version of the The Platinum Card. The event will be hosted at the Brooklyn Museum on September 10, with proceeds benefiting Young Audiences Arts for Learning. Missy Elliott will be the musical headliner, with appearances by Pharrell and other Amex partners. Tickets start at $1,000.As Amex explains:“Pharrell designed a limited edition yellow Platinum Card to thank U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Members who support arts education through the Yellow Ball. Eligible Card Members may request a limited edition yellow Platinum Card, which will replace their existing Card, when they purchase a ticket to the Yellow Ball.“There’s special significance to the color, too. According to Elizabeth Rutledge, Amex’s Chief Marketing Officer, “The color Yellow was selected and inspired by Pharrell, who views the color and event as helping to shine a light on the need for arts education and its ability to pave the way for a brighter future.“Sign up for our daily newsletterEmail addressSign upI would like to subscribe to The Points Guy newsletters and special email promotions. It’s only available with the standard consumer version of the card — business and partner cards are not included, though they can get you access to the event. Only basic cardmembers are eligible, and if you lose or damage your yellow card, it’ll be replaced with the standard aluminum version. For more on The Platinum Card, see:Review: The Platinum Card from American Express10 Things to Do When You Get Amex Platinum8 Lesser-Known Benefits of the Platinum Card from American Express
