Emirates Airline has made a splash at this year’s Dubai Airshow. Following a massive $16 billion order for 50 Airbus A350 aircraft, there were questions about what the airline would do with its outstanding Boeing 787 order. Now we know.On Wednesday morning, Emirates announced that it had ordered 30 Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The order, which is worth $8.8 billion at list prices, firms up the Memorandum of Understanding that Emirates had signed with Boeing to order the aircraft in 2017, though slightly changing that order to opt for the 787-9 rather than the originally planned 787-10....

Nearly 50 Boeing 737 MAX pilots are losing jobs in apparent fallout from the plane’s extended grounding.Icelandair says it has dismissed 24 Boeing 737 MAX pilots and cancelled training for an additional 21 who had been scheduled to begin flying for the carrier later this summer. Icelandair spokesman Michael Raucheisen confirmed the move to TPG on Friday.Separately, a spokeswoman for the airline told Air Transport World: “This decision was made as it is expected that the suspension of the 737 MAX aircraft will last longer than anticipated and we have made changes to our flight schedule until Sept....

On a normal day, a single-fare ticket from London Bridge to Gatwick Airport is priced at about £11 (about $14 USD). However, on Wednesday traveler Lucy Watson was nearly charged what might be one of the most comically expensive mistake fares of all time: a difference of about £9,989.Watson spotted the £10,000 rail ticket on a kiosk screen when she was on her way to Sussex from the London terminal. She later tweeted about the incident, joking that it might be better to opt for the cheaper Thameslink (which also goes to Gatwick Airport) instead:Watson told MyLondon that since she was in a rush, she didn’t have the time to speak to any rail staff members about the mistake....

They’re getting stronger.Due to an increased immunity to insecticides, the dreadful curse of bed bugs is back in America and spreading. Experts believe that a new strain of bed bugs resistant to DDT — the insecticide not-so-commonly known by its full name, Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane — has developed in recent years.Michael Potter, a professor of entomology at the University of Kentucky, told the Telegraph that the problem has been getting worse in recent years as products meant to exterminate bed bugs are simply not as effective as they once were....

Swiss International Air Lines’ fleet of Airbus A220s are returning to service Wednesday, marking progress for the carrier after it grounded all of the planes a day earlier.The airline’s A220s have suffered engine reliability issues and were grounded for inspections, which began Tuesday.
