At the recent Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Airbus showed off its new Corner Settee, a couch-like seat for long-haul, narrow-body aircraft. Instead of the seat reclining into a sleeping position, it is laid out like a couch, allowing a passenger to lie across the seat rather than reclining....

Airlines around the globe will soon be asked to inspect more than 300 Boeing 737 aircraft over concerns about “improper manufacturing” for components in the planes’ wings, the US Federal Aviation Administration said Sunday.“Boeing has informed the FAA that certain 737NG and 737MAX leading edge slat tracks may have been improperly manufactured and may not meet all applicable regulatory requirements for strength and durability,” the FAA said in statement posted to its website....

Air France announced last week the immediate retirement of its Airbus A380s, which in the U.S. served New York, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco. On these routes — some of which are currently suspended due to the pandemic — Air France will now employ smaller aircraft, including the Boeing 777 and 787 and the Airbus A350. The 787 in particular features a much better business-class product than the A380’s....

San Francisco International Airport’s longest runway (28L/10R) has been closed since Sept. 2 for repairs. Runway 1L/9R is also affected by the work. You may or may not care which specific runways are affected, but if you are flying to or through SFO in the next few weeks, you will likely very much care about the impacts. The runway is expected to reopen on Sept. 27, but in the meantime, the project is having some significant effects on flights at the airport while it’s going on....

It’s been a rough few years for retailers, and the last few months are no exception. While American Airlines isn’t exactly making it cheap or easy to redeem miles on its own flights, it’s been consistently adding functionality to book partner awards through its website. On Thursday, American added its 16th partner for online award booking.As of Thursday morning, Japan Airlines awards can be searched and booked on AA.com.
