Many airline frequent flyer programs distinguish between miles that count toward elite status and miles that essentially are a currency that can be used to redeem for flights. Part of the reason for doing so is that airlines award multiples of actual miles flown for passengers in premium cabins or those with elite status for ‘spending’, but only award progress toward status based on actual miles flown.The British Airways Executive Club (BAEC) has a split....

Deliveries of Boeing’s 737 aircraft have plummeted in the first quarter of 2019, according to the company, dropping by nearly half from the previous quarter, and a third when compared to the first quarter of 2018.The aircraft manufacturer, beleaguered by safety issues surrounding its 737 MAXes, a variant of the workhorse aircraft, delivered 89 of the 737 aircraft from January to March 2019. That’s down 49% from the 173 it delivered from the beginning of October 2018 to the end of December 2018 and down just under 33% from the 132 it delivered in the same period in 2018....

British Airways is joining the group of airlines that recognize their past by flying a so-called “retro livery” — a plane, or planes, painted in one of the airline’s old color schemes. BA just announced it will bring its first retro livery to one of its 747s. As part of the airline’s 100-year birthday, BA is painting one of its 747s in the livery of one of its predecessor airlines, British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC)....

On Wednesday, March 18, the European Commission released guidelines on EU passenger rights regulations in the context of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which shows no sign of slowing down. A Pakistan International Airlines Airbus A320 jet crashed just before landing in Karachi on Friday, with about 100 people onboard.According to officials, Flight PK8303 was en route from Lahore to Karachi when it crashed into a residential neighborhood at 2:39 p.m. PIA said in a statement that the flight was carrying 91 passengers and seven crew members. The BBC reported that there are 76 confirmed deaths so far, but it remains unclear how many of those were passengers....

Earlier this week, I took a short-notice trip from Atlanta (ATL) to Orlando (MCO) to cover opening day of Universal’s theme parks. I found out the morning before the parks were opening that I would be able to gain access to opening day if I stayed that night at a Universal Resorts Orlando hotel.
