American Airlines has been on a roll lately when it comes to adding partners that you can book with your AAdvantage miles online. At times AAddvantage was presumably “testing” things and accidentally made too many partners bookable online, but many additions have been intentional — such as with Qatar Airways, Air Tahiti Nui, SriLankan Airlines, Cape Air, S7 Airlines and more.As of last night, Etihad awards have become bookable online using American Airline miles, as was reported by Jon NYC and View From the Wing!...

David Hans Arntson had been a captain for Alaska Airlines for more than 20 years when the airline randomly administered him a test for drugs and alcohol on June 20, 2014. The test results showed the longtime pilot had put passengers in serious danger that day. After flying two flights for the airline, Arntson’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.134 percent and 0.142 percent in two breathalyzer tests. That is nearly three times the legal limit for pilots....

London’s Heathrow Airport has a new hotel in one of its terminals. As of Tuesday, Aerotel London Heathrow has opened its doors, making it the only in-terminal hotel in LHR’s Terminal 3.While the new hotel, which is a member of the Plaza Premium Group, is located within Terminal 3, it also serves terminals 2, 4 and 5. More specifically, the hotel is located just off of T3 Arrivals and offers two floors, featuring a total of 82 rooms....

Elite status is often the zenith for any frequent traveler. Whether it’s with an airline or hotel chain, elite status, even entry-tier status, comes with valuable benefits, and top-tier elite status has special value. TPG’s latest valuations have American Airlines Executive Platinum status worth upwards of $7,000 while Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador status is worth around $7,430.There are some lesser-known perks too, including unique gifts that airlines and hotels send out as thank-yous to their most loyal customers....

United Airlines has increased its commitments for the new Bombardier CRJ550, the new 50-seat regional jet with first-class seats that it plans to introduce before the end of the year.The Chicago-based carrier will add 54 of the aircraft, which are re-certified Bombardier CRJ700 airframes, through 2020, United disclosed in a second-quarter financial filing. It previously planned to add 50 CRJ550s.The CRJ550 will be outfitted with 10 first class seats —a first for a 50-seat regional jet in the feeder fleets of the US mainline carriers — 20 Economy Plus seats and 20 economy seats....

There’s no better way to fly domestically than on the transcon from the New York area to Los Angeles and San Francisco.In the years leading up to the pandemic, the Big 3, as well as JetBlue, all offered lie-flat business-class seating on these routes. Plus, premium-cabin flyers could expect multi-course meals, amenity kits, proper bedding and more.While United’s best product — the “new” Polaris — was reserved for the New York market, transcon routes from Boston to San Francisco also featured lie-flat seating on the single-aisle Boeing 757, along with the aforementioned premium service....
