Summer storms are taking aim at major airports across the Northeastern US as travelers head home following the Fourth of July holiday. On July 16, 1969 — 50 years ago today — the Apollo 11 spacecraft was launched on a Saturn V rocket from Cape Kennedy, Florida (now Cape Canaveral) at 9:32am EDT. If you currently have a companion fare code in your Alaska Airlines ‘My Account’, you can apply it to a first class booking until its expiration date.“The Alaska Airlines Visa still bestows a companion fare upon cardholders, just “depending on your flight itinerary”…ie, for coach tickets only....

TPG readers are used to hearing about some of the great deals offered by lesser known frequent flyer programs. However, these often come with some caveats: you’ll have to put up with navigating a difficult website, you’ll be disappointed that it doesn’t have access to the same awards found on other programs, or you’ll be frustrated with poorly trained phone agents (to name a few).Avianca LifeMiles has been the poster child for these kind of issues, as it offers some great award prices, yet its website had many limitations, and its call center is extremely difficult to handle....

Last summer, my sister ended up with a $1,200 Delta First class ticket for the low cost of $19 because I paid for Freebird flight protection. I absolutely loved the protection the service offered for domestic itineraries and usually bought it for every low-cost carrier flight.However, earlier this year with coronavirus wrecking havoc on the aviation industry, Freebird stopped offering its protection to the public as its business model was no longer sustainable with such unpredictability....

Food service at the pointy end of the plane is where airlines try to shine. Helping them succeed is Gate Gourmet, the Swiss-based airline-catering company whose logo can be seen at airports worldwide. TPG recently visited Gate Gourmet’s facility at New York-JFK, to check out the kitchen serving more than 13,000 meals a day for over 40 departing flights.Months of preparation – from kitchen to airline cabin – are needed to serve up gourmet meals at high altitude....
