An Air Transat Boeing 737-800 en route to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) from Montreal (YUL) diverted to Newark Airport (EWR) Saturday morning after smoke was reported in the cargo hold. East African airline RwandAir will launch a New York route in mid-2019, and it plans to connect in Accra, Ghana to do so.Yvonne Manzi Makolo, CEO of Rwanda’s flagship carrier, recently told Travel Weekly that the airline plans to use the New York route, with its Ghana stop, to connect East and West Africa in addition to reaching North America. If approved, the Accra-New York route will be a fifth-freedom flight — operated by a foreign carrier between two foreign countries as part of service connecting those points to the airline’s home country....

To earn American Airlines elite status, flyers generally need to hit a spending threshold (EQD) and either a mileage (EQM) or segment (EQS) threshold. Considering domestic roundtrips have been skyrocketing lately, this seems like a decent deal, however there are only a measly 20 of them for sale and you don’t earn miles on these trips. I suspect they will be snatched up instantly at 12:00 EST, but if you have time it may pay off to try your luck and keep refreshing - often times you can snag one a couple minutes later when someone decides they don’t want to purchase it (or their credit card isn’t accepted)....

Despite technical advances in so much of the air travel experience, there’s one aspect that’s remained stubbornly manual: handling oversell situations. It’s only been in the last couple of years that airlines have tried to add an electronic element to the process. Yet still, often the process still ends with a gate agent announcing the flight is oversold, and asking for volunteers to take another flight.American Airlines is working to eliminate this often-chaotic process, and this week it took a step forward toward that goal: AA passengers are now able to volunteer to be bumped right in the AA app....
