Self-upgrading — the rare but often disruptive case of passengers who decide to go sit in a higher class of service without permission — can lead to disturbing scenes. In one recent case on Emirates, it landed the passenger responsible in court. A flight attendant he had allegedly sexually assaulted said the airline had suspended her in the wake of the incident, an account that Emirates disputes.According to a report in the Emirati newspaper Khaleej Times, the case was debated at the Dubai Court of First Instance last Sunday, when the flight attendant who was allegedly assaulted and harassed by the self-upgrading passenger testified about the incident....

Update 12/21/2018 2:10pm ET: At 6:31pm London time (1:31pm ET), LGW tweeted that flights had resumed.Just hours after reopening its runway and operations, London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW) has shut down yet again following a “suspected drone sighting.“According to a Gatwick spokesperson, operations at LGW, Britain’s second largest airport, have been “temporarily suspended,” according to the BBC. The sighting occurred at about 5:10pm London time (12:10pm ET).“We are just hearing a report of another drone sighting that we are investigating,” the spokesperson said....

Yesterday, TPG reported the news that Caesars Entertainment will be wholly acquired by Eldorado Resorts. In accordance with the merger agreement, the two gaming companies will combine to form the largest owner and operator of US gaming assets, with over 60 properties in 16 states. A statement made by El Dorado clarified that Eldorado’s Chairman, CEO, COO, CFO and CLO will lead the combined company, which will retain the Caesars name....

In what might be the most round-about way to execute a loophole of all time, airline passenger Lee Cimino has cracked the code to beating Ryanair’s newest baggage policy.The policy made its debut on Thursday, Nov. 1, and introduced a £8 ($10.40) fee to check a 10kg (22 lbs) bag (which passengers used to be able to carryon for free), or flyers can now pay £6 ($7.80) for priority boarding. To “make up” for the new fee, the budget airliner increased the permissible size of their (still free) “personal bag” by 40%....

This Sunday, Feb. 2, the San Francisco 49ers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIV in Miami. While the Chiefs are the designated “home” team, both groups needed to fly down to South Florida for this weekend’s festivities. With low-budget airlines: you get what you pay for. In this case, an EasyJet flight from Manchester, U.K., to Alicante, Spain, faced a two-hour delay after its pilot went, well, missing. Recently, I took two flights.The first was an Air France Airbus A380 from New York JFK to Paris CDG. Current FAA weather advisories are in effect for all three New York City airports (EWR/JFK/LGA), Philadelphia (PHL) and San Francisco (SFO).But the airport dealing with the worst delays right now is Atlanta (ATL) where about half of flights between 11am and 3pm are delayed:So far Monday, FlightAware has chalked up 2,720 delays and another 521 cancellations of US flights....
