The fallout from the political unrest in Hong Kong continues to spread.Reuters Nov. 29 is reporting Cathay Pacific Airways is cutting capacity as travel to and from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) deteriorates. Reuters cited internal company documents that show the airline will now cut flights in 2020 by 1.4% instead of a planned increase of 3.1% in capacity. Earlier this month, the Hong Kong-based company said it was cutting its second half profit forecast for the second time in less than a month....

A recent story about a mom traveling on a 10-hour flight between Seoul (ICN) and San Francisco (SFO) with her 4-month-old baby has taken the internet by storm. The first-time mom reportedly went above and beyond by preparing an excess of 200 goodie bags filled with candy and ear plugs to pass along to every single passenger on board.Passenger Dave Corona, who also traveled on flight with the mom and baby, shared a post on Facebook stating that it was a “touching gesture”:The note inside of the goodie bag read:“Hello, I’m Junwoo and I’m 4 months old....

The Royal Wedding is fast approaching, and Kensington Palace has revealed where Meghan Markle will be spending her last night as a commoner: Cliveden House Hotel. The estate announced that it will be closed to other guests leading up to the royal nuptials on Saturday.Accompanied by her mother, the duchess-to-be will stay at the five-star luxury hotel in Berkshire Taplo, about nine miles north of Windsor Castle. Built in 1666, the estate was once the home of Prince Frederick of Wales, and it was later visited by Queen Victoria....

Uber and Lyft drivers at Washington, DC’s Reagan National Airport are tricking the apps into artificially inducing surge pricing, raising the fares for passengers and earnings for drivers, a report by WJLA unveils.Surge pricing is a fact of life when using a ride-hailing app like Uber or Lyft. Fares are raised when demand is higher with the intention that more drivers will turn on their app and start providing rides to travelers in need....

At a glance, the latest news surrounding Hertz and SkyTeam appears to be little more than a marketing play — dollars changing hands in a bid to increase exposure, with little-to-no substance in terms of customer benefit. That could change as the partnership evolves, of course, but it looks a little weak from the outset.Hertz has just become the first non-air affiliate of SkyTeam, and while we’re told that “SkyTeam passengers [will] enjoy car rental benefits and earn frequent flyer miles when renting with Hertz,” there’s next to no meat beyond that....

The overnight flight from Kuala Lumpur to Perth was just like any other for the crew of a Boeing 747-200 in June 1982. At 37,000 feet above the Indian Ocean, south of Java, all was well. That is until the crew and passengers began to notice a haze appearing in the cabin. Even though smoking was still allowed on flights at the time, this was different. It smelled of sulfur.Passengers sat in window seats in front of the wings noticed that the engines appeared to be glowing blue....

Boeing employees tried to talk Lion Air out of more-stringent, simulator-based training for 737 MAX pilots, according to a trove of internal communications that are now part of a congressional investigation into the grounded jet. Ultimately, no airline or regulator decided to require new simulator training for 737 MAX pilots who were certified to fly previous versions of the jet.On Oct. 29, 2018, a Lion Air 737 MAX crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff, killing all on board....

Even though it seems like it may never end with temperatures reaching high into the 90s, the end of the summer is approaching fast. This summer was one of the busiest travel seasons the Transportation Security Administration has ever seen; they even hired an extra 1,600 officers to meet the demands of the 243 million travelers the agency expected to screen between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend. As we roll into the summer’s final holiday weekend, our TPG staff reflected on some of our favorite trips we took this summer....

Earlier this month, a United Airlines flight between Chicago O’Hare and Chattanooga, Tennessee was forced to return back to Chicago O’Hare as it neared the Indiana-Kentucky border. According to an article published by USA Today, a passenger on board the flight said that the pilot told passengers, “We’re going to turn and go back to O’Hare” as the aircraft was “too large.” That passenger, Vince Fallon, who earlier in the day originated out of Omaha, Nebraska, described the experience as “very strange....

Mexico’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation has released the agency’s final report on the crash of Aeromexico Connect flight AM2431, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Durango, Mexico (DGO) on July 31 last year. The Embraer 190 jet, bound for Mexico City, crashed just moments after takeoff, a few hundred feet from the runway. Though a fire ensued shortly after impact, all 103 occupants survived, with only 14 serious injuries reported....
