American Airlines CEO Doug Parker said he expects the Federal Aviation Administration to allow Boeing 737 MAX jets to return to service by mid-August, though the airline is keeping the plane off its schedule until Sept. 3.“We wouldn’t be selling seats today unless we believed it was a highly likely possibility,” that the planes will be able to come back into scheduled service, Parker said during the company’s annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday....

On Sunday, Lewis Hamilton won a decisive victory in the 10th annual Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, held at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. But before the festivities commenced, spectators were treated to a wonderful airshow featuring a number of Etihad aircraft as well as Al Fursan, the aerobatic demonstration team of the UAE Air Force.Etihad included two aircraft in the show, a Boeing 787-9 and an Airbus A380....

The European Commission has agreed to suspend strict requirements regarding airport slots in the light of the coronavirus outbreak. European Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday that the institution agreed that it would suspend the rule that requires airlines to operate a majority of their scheduled flights in order to avoid forfeiting their landing slots.Currently, European Commission rules state that an airline must operate at least 80% of their allocated slots under normal circumstances....

Fiji Airways has announced it will be adding two Airbus A350-900s to its fleet later this year. The aircraft will be leased from Dubai-based DAE Capital, and the first flights are expected to commence between Nadi, Fiji, and Australia and the US in late November or December of 2019.The A350 joins Fiji Airways long-haul fleet of six Airbus A330s. Both of the new jets will be outfitted in a two cabin configuration with 33 business class seats and 301 economy seats....

As tropical storm winds reach the Florida coast, hurricane and storm surge warnings have been extended up the Florida coast. Mandatory evacuations are in place from South Florida to coastal South Carolina. Meanwhile, Hurricane Dorian has all but stalled over Great Bahama island with 150 mph sustained wind speeds.Hurricane Dorian is currently not forecast to make landfall on the Florida coast. However, the National Hurricane Center still gives a 99% probability of tropical storm-force winds reaching Fort Pierce and Cocoa Beach, Florida....

Friday morning, Marriott released a statement regarding the health of CEO Arne Sorenson.“Sorenson was diagnosed on Wednesday with stage 2 pancreatic cancer,” the statement reads. “Sorenson, 60, received the diagnosis from a medical team at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a series of tests.“The cancer was discovered early and hasn’t spread, according to Sorenson. “The medical team – and I – are confident that we can realistically aim for a complete cure,” he said in the statement....

Qatar Airways announced on Wednesday service to seven new destinations in 2019 — Izmir, Rabat, Malta, Davao, Lisbon, Mogadishu and Langkawi.Speaking at ITB Berlin in Germany, and following the unveiling of Qatar’s new economy product, CEO Akbar Al Baker announced the new destinations and frequencies, hinting there would be another seven new destinations to be announced later in 2019.In 2019, Qatar will begin flying from its hub in Doha (DOH) to:Izmir, Turkey — commencing May 23, 3x weekly with Airbus A320 aircraftMalta — commencing May 23, daily service with A320 aircraftRabat, Morocco — commencing May 29, 3x weekly with Boeing 787 aircraftDavao, Philippines — commencing June 18, 1x weekly service with Boeing 787 aircraft....
