Delta is betting on London by announcing two new nonstop options from the United States. Beginning in 2020, Delta will become the lone US-based airline to fly into London-Gatwick (LGW), with daily trips between New York JFK and Boston.Gatwick will be the eighth nonstop transatlantic destination from Boston on Delta and its partners, which together offer up to 13 daily flights between Boston and Europe. In New York, the additional flight will be on top of Delta and Virgin’s combined eight daily flights to London Heathrow and three additional daily flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester from Delta’s JFK hub....

View the current offers here.Last week, there were some great fares from various US cities to Lima on both United and Delta, and it looks like some Flyertalkers have been finding a few good mileage runs today roundtrip from New York JFK to Asuncion (in Paraguay) via Sao Paulo on TAM in October and November for just $548.The first thing I do when these come up is check Google’s ITA Matrix and use the calendar search function including a range of nights for length of stay to find out what dates these low fares are available, and I found dozens of days from mid-October to mid-November as you can see from the calendar above....

Part of my summer travels involved flying to Russia, where my husband and I would spend eight days in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In terms of nonstop flights between the two cities, I was limited to Aeroflot’s 737s or A320s, UTair’s 737s or MIAT Mongolian Airlines’ — wait for it — 767 wide-body with an actual business class. In response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, Hilton announced that it will roll over all 2020 elite qualifying nights to the 2021 status year. This will help Hilton Honors elite members earn or upgrade their elite status level in the 2021 and 2022 status years.For example, if you’re a Hilton Honors Gold member and you complete five elite-qualifying nights this year, all of these will roll into 2021 — so you’d start 2021 with five nights....

JetBlue Airways is making significant cuts in Long Beach and saying goodbye to one of its first West Coast destinations this spring as it continues to restructure its map around its bases on the East Coast.The New York-based carrier will end service to Oakland (OAK) — an airport it has served since 2001 — and drop two Caribbean routes from both Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando (MCO). A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 flying from Orlando to an aircraft storage facility in California made an emergency landing Tuesday after the pilots reported an issue with one of the jet’s engines, according to media reports. Southwest confirmed the incident, calling it an engine “performance issue,” according to a transcript of pilots’ conversations with air traffic controllers.The Boeing 737 MAX is grounded worldwide, though the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is allowing airlines to operate the jets without passengers on “ferry flights” to facilities where they can be stored until they’re cleared to fly again....

Before arriving in Kigali, I had done some background research about Rwanda’s history and watched the movie Hotel Rwanda as well as documentaries like God Sleeps in Rwanda to try and get a better grasp of what had happened here in the early 1990s during the genocide — describing it as horrific doesn’t even remotely come close....

Last week, I learned that United was beginning work to reconfigure a number of its 767-300ERs with an exceptionally high number of lie-flat seats, boosting the Polaris cabin capacity by more than 50%. Wednesday, the airline confirmed that 21 aircraft will get this new arrangement, offering a total of 46 business-class seats in a 1-1-1 configuration.Andrew Nocella, United’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer, shared the news with a small group of journalists, adding that premium seats will occupy some two-thirds of the square footage of each of these retrofitted 763s, with 22 Premium Plus seats joining as well....

After weeks of speculation, Virgin Atlantic has confirmed that it will launch flights to Israel this fall. The UK-based airline confirmed in a press release Sunday morning that, beginning in September 2019, the airline will serve Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV), from the airline’s main hub at London Heathrow (LHR). Virgin Atlantic has not yet released a schedule outlining departure and arrival times, though the airline has confirmed that it will offer 180,000 seats on flights from London to Tel Aviv annually....

Nearly six months ago, the Philippine government closed one of the world’s most famous islands, Boracay. This week — after an extensive effort to clean and restore the isle that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte deemed a “cesspool” — Boracay entered a 10-day dry run, during which only Filipino tourists will be permitted, with priority given to local residents.The island will officially open to all tourists on Oct. 26, though even that’s considered a soft opening....
