The plane carrying the British royals instead had to continue flying around for several more minutes.The royal couple’s Qantas Boeing 737-800 aircraft was approaching SYD for landing when the pilot came on the loudspeaker, saying the landing had to be aborted. “There was an aircraft on the runway a little slow to roll so the decision was taken to abort the landing,” the cockpit crew announced, according to the AP.The plane reportedly circled in the air and landed safely a few minutes later. Go-arounds, as the procedure is called, are perfectly normal and fairly common. Like many commercial airliners, the 737 has a dedicated switch on the engine throttles that immediately increases power to the level required to perform a go-around safely.Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have been on a 16-day tour of four countries in the region. Earlier on Friday, they flew to the island of Tonga, where they made two forest dedications at Tupou College. They then returned to Tonga’s Fua’amotu International Airport (TBU) to fly four hours and 40 minutes back to Sydney.The couple is set to wrap up their tour with a four-day visit to New Zealand.
