See privacy policy.Scoot, the budget airline that’s a subsidiary of full-service carrier Singapore Airlines, announced Monday that it would be discontinuing flights to Hawaii due to low passenger demand for the route. The announcement comes less than a year after the low-cost carrier first began its Singapore (SIN) to Honolulu (HNL) service in December 2017, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Scoot will officially end the route, which is operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, in June 2019.The SIN to HNL flight was Scoot’s first US-bound route. Along with the route’s weak demand, the cancellation is also due to Singapore consolidating Scoot’s flight paths with regional carrier SilkAir, another low-cost carrier that is merging with the airline group. With one-way fares that started at about $400, the Honolulu flight, which stopped in Osaka, Japan (KIX), was a cost-effective way for US travelers to pair a vacation to Hawaii with a trip to Japan or Southeast Asia.
