See privacy policy.While snow is a welcomed sight for skiers at resorts throughout the Alps, winter weather is wreaking havoc for travelers and commuters across parts of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The winter storm has already brought with it heavy snow, sleet and gusty winds, and is expected to continue through the weekend and into the early part of the week. Lingering snow showers and icy conditions at major airports have prompted some airlines to issue travel waivers and advisories.Munich AirportMunich Airport (MUC) is the largest airport impacted by the recent round of winter weather. The airport serves more than 44 million passengers annually and is the second largest hub for Lufthansa. More than 120 flights have already been canceled with additional cancellations expected. In addition to flight cancellations, Munich is also reporting 70 delayed departures exceeding one hour. Flights are being impacted as a result of snow removal operations and extensive deicing efforts.Other airports in the region are also having issues as a result of the winter weather. Stuttgart Airport, Innsbruck Airport and Zurich Airport are experiencing cancellations and delays. In addition to disrupted flights, Deutsche Welle is reporting rail service delays and cancellations.Waivers and AdvisoriesMultiple US and European airlines have issued travel advisories and waivers as a result of the winter weather. As always, we recommend that you check with your airline prior to your departure date to make sure flights are on schedule. Though only two major airlines have issued travel waivers so far, other airlines in the region may also offer waived fees or additional rebooking options.
